What is Entertaiment?

Entertaiment is something that can be consumed by an individual and may be of different forms. It evolves over time, and is capable of being adapted to suit any scale: from an individualized selection of pre-recorded products; to a banquet adapted for two; to performances intended for thousands of people.

The word is derived from the Latin intertenere and Indo-European root ten, meaning to hold inside. According to Oliver and Barstsch (2010), entertainment can be defined as an activity understood objectively, encompasses communication between text and audience from an external stimulus, offers pleasure, requires an audience and occurs in a passive form.
