Daily News

A daily newspaper is a periodical publication that contains news and opinions about current events. It is usually printed on paper or card stock and is distributed every day except Sunday. Newspapers can contain local, national or international news. Some include color photos or illustrations and may also contain comics, classified ads and a section for sports. Many people read newspapers to keep up with the latest trends and developments in their community, country or world. Others read them to get a sense of what other people think about particular topics.

New York Daily News

The New York Daily News is an American tabloid newspaper founded in 1919 as the Illustrated Daily News. It was the first successful morning tabloid and it aimed to attract readers with sensational crime and scandal stories, lurid photographs, and other entertainment features. The News shifted its editorial stance over the years, moving from an isolationist position during the early stages of World War II to a liberal populism by the 1980s.

In the 20th century, the News was a major contributor to investigative journalism in the United States. Its investigative work included the Teapot Dome Scandal, the Wallis Simpson–King Edward VIII romance and a number of murders and other high-profile trials. It was also an innovator in photography, being an early user of the AP wirephoto service and developing a large staff of photographers.

The News moved into a building on 42nd Street near Second Avenue in 1929, which was designed by architects John Mead Howells and Raymond Hood. It was known as the Daily News Building and is now called 5 Manhattan West. The News occupied the building until 1995, when it moved to 450 West 33rd Street (also known as Manhattan West). The News’s radio and television stations, including WPIX, remain in its old building.

A hedge fund is trying to buy Tribune Publishing, the parent company of the New York Daily News and other newspapers. Shareholders are being asked to approve the takeover by Alden Global Capital. The Daily News has been losing money for several years and the sale could result in significant job cuts.

The Daily News covers New York City and the surrounding area with intense city news coverage, celebrity gossip, politics, a strong opinion section and sports coverage. The newspaper’s award-winning writers, columnists and opinion formers bring you the very best in news and current events. In addition, no one covers the Yankees, Mets, and Giants like the Daily News. The News is available online and in print. Its mobile app offers access to live and archived content from the newspaper, as well as breaking news alerts. The app allows users to save articles for offline reading, create bookmarks and share stories through email. It also includes a search feature that lets readers look up words and phrases in the entire newspaper. It is available for iPhone and iPad and Android devices.
