Entertaiment is the activity or process of entertaining, which can range from activities that may be enjoyed by an individual alone, such as a private viewing of film or recorded music; to banquets designed for two; to public performances intended for thousands, including global competitions and television broadcasts. Entertainment evolves and is adapted to the needs of the moment: familiar stories, such as the tale of Scheherazade in the Persian professional storytelling tradition, inspire retellings in different media. These include a story by Shakespeare, orchestral compositions by Rimsky-Korsakov and Ravel, a film adaptation by Pasolini and innovative video games.
