Entertaining is the act of entertaining, or an agreeable occupation for the mind; a diversion; amusement: Solving the daily crossword is my entertainment. Entertainment is a broad and encompassing subject matter that encapsulates an endless array of art forms, cultural phenomena and business empires. To write about it in a comprehensive manner that will appeal to a wide audience is an enormous task, but one worthy of the effort and investment required to produce TEN’s fall 2011 issue on Transformational Entertainment News. The word entertainment derives from the Latin inter tenere, with its Indo-European root ten. Taking on the daunting task of defining what entertainment is and why it remains popular is an exercise in translation that has proved to be an exciting endeavor.
